A misty morning with the bats at Yarra Bend Park
Fog lifts on a still Spring morning at Yarra Bend Park. On the far bank, a colony of bats can be seen hanging from the gum trees
After being scared out of Melbourne's Botanic Gardens by crowds of noisy people, the bats made a home for themselves here, along the banks of the Yarra River in Kew. Bats play a role in seed and pollen dispersion of native plants but can be a problem due to their noise, smell and the dissemination of the deadly Australian Bat Lyssavirus.
