Kelly Gang Gunfight Site

This patch of bush at Stringybark Creek was where Ned Kelly, his brother Dan, and two others ambushed a police camp on 26 October 1878. In the melee that ensued, 3 of the 4 police were killed, with one escaping and hiding in a wombat hole overnight, before heading home and raising the alarm. From that point on, the outlaw group were known as 'The Kelly Gang' and it would be 20 months before they were caught.
