The steep east face of the Matterhorn, with the Hörnligrat ridge on the right being the easiest and first-ascended route
At 3260m, it was first built in 1880 with 17 beds. The new hut and merged hotel beside it can now sleep 170
At 4478m, the mountain attracts around 3000 climbers annually, with an average of 3-4 deaths each year. First climbed on 14th July 1865, climbing is banned each 14th July to pay respect to fallen climbers.
