Another Stewart Island Weka, on Ulva Island, fossicks for bugs along the track
(Stilbocarpa lyallii) found only in the Titi Islands off Southern NZ and introduced to the neigbouring Ulva Island, seen here. With the seeds almost wiped out by feasting rodent populations, growth has only been possible with active, long-term pest eradication. It was once prepared and eaten like cabbage and as a wrap around other foods in a fire pit.
